We have provided instructions for a treasure hunt below, but you may want to create a treasure hunt yourself or let your children create one for you. If you create your own, use the one below as a template. The goal is to show how important it is that God is totally truthful.
Try this: Give your child a treasure map or written directions to show them where to go to find the first treasure. Write out the directions for the 2nd hiding place and put them with the first treasure and so on.
Example:
Treasure #1 - a bag of popcorn could be hidden in a bedroom under the bed in a box.
Treasure #2 - a can of soda (make it their favorite) could be hidden in the den, on a bookcase behind a favorite book.
Treasure #3 - a bag of M&M's hidden in the kitchen, in a cupboard, in a pot. Finally,
Treasure #4 - the movie, hidden in the family room, in an end table, inside a drawer. (Be sure to select something the whole family will enjoy).
You can be as creative as you want but be sure the directions for finding the items are clear and concise.
After they have found all the treasures, inform them that the Grand Treasure is that you are going to have a special movie night right then and there.
Before watching the movie, however, discuss the following questions with your child:
The Bible is God's treasure map and instruction manual. A relationship with Him is the greatest of all treasures and He wants us to find it!! You can count on God's Word to be totally Truthful because God is Totally Truthful. If you follow it's instructions you will always find the treasure!!!
If your child is able to understand that Satan likes to cause deviations in our life, discuss how he can get us off track and trick us into not believing that God's Word is ALWAYS TRUE.
If God is really Totally Truthful then He would never lie to you. His promises can always be trusted.
A relationship with Him
We must each accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. (See The Four Fantastic Facts).
